Obituary

Eldon “Al” L. Matter, age 79, of Castalia, died Friday night, July 26, at his residence. He was born August 24, 1933, in Sandusky, to Ernest and Leona (Hackenburg) Matter, and was a 1952 graduate of Sandusky High School.

He joined the U. S. Army in 1954, proudly serving until being honorably discharged in 1956. He was employed by New Departure Hyatt for 41 years, retiring in 1993, and was the Leader of the Sheet Metal Workers for many years. Al was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ, Sandusky Amvets, Sandusky American Legion, Kelleys Island VFW, Fort Myers Beach Moose Club, and a longtime member of the Sandusky Power Squadron, serving as Rendezvous Chairman for many years.

Al most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at the boathouse, going to Fort Myers Beach in the winter, and a good joke. He was an avid boater, hunter, and fisherman. Al will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Nancy (Maley) Matter, whom he married December 23, 1954; son Steve Matter of Sandusky; daughter Deb “Susie” Scott and special son-in-law Terry Scott of Sandusky; granddaughters Tami Scott of Sandusky, and Traci (Brad) Beaverson of Bradner, OH; great granddaughter Riley Beaverson, and expected great granddaughter, Skylar Beaverson; sister Janice (Richard) Halishak of Seven Hills, OH; as well as a host of nieces and nephews, other relatives and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers Lowell (in infancy), Walter, Millard, Russell, Harold, and Myron Matter; and sister Joanne Streidl.

Friends may call from 5-8 pm Tuesday, July 30, in the Ransom Funeral Home, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, July 31, with the Rev. Jerald Fenske officiating. Entombment will be in Meadow Green Memorial Park, with the American Legion Post 83 conducting military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family politely requests memorials be made to Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870, Margaretta Township Fire and Rescue, 113 South Ave., Castalia, OH 44824, or a charity of the donor’s choice. Obituary for Mrs. Carolyn Elizabeth Hartman

 Carolyn Elizabeth Hartman, 72 years of age, of Fort Myers Beach, Florida passed away on Friday, May 24, 2013 at Health Park Hospital in Fort Myers, Florida. Mrs. Hartman was born in Oakland, California on June 27, 1940, a daughter of the late Lawrence V. Wegner and Leah Edwards Wegner. Carolyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She was a very caring and devoted person always looking out for friends and always ready to help others. She was extremely talented and could fix most anything. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, especially making things for the Neo Natal Unit at HealthPark Hospital. She was a member of the Red Hatters of Lee County. She enjoyed bowling. She leaves to cherish her memories, her loving husband of 48 years, Robert A. Hartman of Fort Myers Beach, FL; her children, Michael (Judy) Hartman of Sturgis, MI, Robin (Gary) Garramone of Punta Gorda, FL, Steven (Penny) Hartman of Colon, MI, David (Teri) Hartman of Ft. Myers Beach, FL, Patty (Eric) Weeks of Norwalk, OH, Jolee (Scott) Cebull of Norwalk, OH and Robert V. (Tina) Hartman of Waterford, MI; her grandchildren, Brandon, Kerri, Shane, Keith, Kasey, Rachel, Leah, Amy, Rebecca, Nehemiah, Reno, Angie, Candy, Adam, Nicholas, Randee, Abby, Libby and Joshua; 24 great-grandchildren; her siblings, Marilyn Sitterblad, Claude Lieneke, George Lieneke, Steve Wegner and Larry Wegner. 2013 April Civic Association Minutes

PORT CARLOS COVE CIVIC ASSOCIATION MEETING

Monday April 1, 2013

 CALL TO ORDER: President Jan Thon called the meeting to order at 7 PM , Monday April with 26 members in attendance.

Jan led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and Annette led us in a prayer.

INTRODUCE NEW MEMBERS: None

RECOGNIZE DECEASED MEMBERS: None

MINUTES FROM LAST MEETING: Annette Riesterer read the minuts from the last meeting and they were approved as read.

TREASURERS REPORT: Ann gave the treasurers report  as of March 31, 2013.  We have a balance of $10,348.35 in the checking account .  We have $154.68 in our petty cash fund. The treasures report was approved as presented.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP: Judy David turned membership over to Joyce Miles

SUNSHINE: 8 get well cards were sent

WELCOME: None

PURCHASING: None

ACTIVITY CHAIRS:

SHUFFLEBOARD: Nothing but still shuffling for anyone showing up

LADIES LUNCH BUNCH: Watch Bulletin Board for next destination and time

BINGO: Good Times – need more bingo players

EUCHRE: Still playing and sometimes playing other card games

BRIDGE: Last day is April 1

PLAY DAY: 10 attended to day to play hand and Foot

HAPPY HOOKERS: Blankets given to the hospital were made by the ladies

        MENS CLUB COFFEE :

Working on immunizing the palm trees against white flies.  We can apply the chemical with fertilizer.  The Men’s club can do the project for half the cost of getting it done.  The cost will be about $4500

HOLIDAY PARTIES – VOLUNTEERS THANKSGIVING CHRISTMAS ANNOUNCEMENTS: Jan thanked everyone for a great year. 88 attended the 60’s party. A good time was had and type died shirts were a hit.  March Breakfast – 71 attended – need more signs.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS: Audit done by Steve Gumm – he reported at the meeting.  Need to get receipts to Ann for expenses.  Always use the recap sheets for the events  Tax exemption information is being looked at.  A committee is looking at making changes to the bylaws.  This will be voted on in November.    NEW BUSINESS: Bob Warren wants to have skits and costumes for events in the park.  He has costumes for people.  This is an idea to try. QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS: None VOLUNTEER TO MAKE GOODIES NEXT MEETING  Jan volunteered to bring snack or dessert for the November meeting. MOTION FOR ADJOURNMENT OF MEETING  Mary Gumm made the motion to adjoun with Mary Ann Wiesenhauer 2nd the motion.

Jan Lozier had a wonderful dessert and cookies after the meeting adjourned.
